Providing information to Surrey parents
Childcare Act – section 12, Duty to provide information, advice and assistance:
Local authorities must provide to parents or prospective parents information about childcare AND information about other services, facilities or publications which may be of benefit to parents, prospective parents, children or young people.
Extended services, building on experience – parenting support:
Supporting parents, means providing access to information about nationally and locally available sources of information, advice and support.
The resources in FIS:
- Contact centre – first fix phone service
- Experienced, qualified advisers for complex calls or where assistance is required
- Outreach team working in communities, developing professional relationships
- Free access internet kiosks in 21 children’s centres (4 more being ordered)
- Expertise and experience in advice and guidance for parents
- Training delivered to contact centre and children’s centre staff
- Knowledge of available resources
- Management of Parent Know How Directory
- Links into national and regional FIS networks
- Publications and publicity materials
